Heidi A. Hamann, PhD

Dr. Heidi Hamann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology. She also holds secondary appointments in the College of Medicine (Departments of Family & Community Medicine; Psychiatry) and is co-leader of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the UA Cancer Center. Dr. Hamann has strong training in health psychology with expertise in psychosocial and behavioral responses across the cancer control spectrum. For almost 20 years, her research has addressed early detection and survivorship issues, especially among populations traditionally underrepresented in cancer control research. Her NIH-funded work has focused on psychosocial issues for patients with lung cancer; other funding (as PI) has addressed patient navigation to improve adherence to lung cancer screening in a safety-net system and an implementation science study of patient-focused cancer care interventions for underserved patients. All of this work involves team science and community collaborative efforts. Throughout her career Dr. Hamann has mentored numerous graduate and undergraduate students with specialties in clinical health psychology, medicine, and public health. In her free time Dr. Hamann enjoys being with her family, attending musicals, running slowly, and listening to podcasts.
